Obituary of Helen D. Jazak
Jazak, Helen
Irondequoit: Monday, February 6, 2023 at the age of 97. Predeceased by her loving husband, Donald J. Jazak. Helen is survived by her children, Steven Jazak, Martha Galley (Don), Monica Jazak, and Patricia Baldwin (David) and her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Emory (BJ), Eric Galley (Daiana), Emily Jarvie (Collin), and Caitlin, Lauren and Julia Baldwin.
After graduating from high school in Amsterdam, Helen took a year off to work on the war effort as both of her brothers had already enlisted. Helen graduated from the University of Rochester with a double major in English and British History. She told many wonderful stories of her time on the women's campus at Prince Street. She made many friends there who remained dear to her for her entire life. After college she was a social worker for 7 years when a friend invited her on a blind date, who became the love of her life. Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a generous spirit and many people considered her their "second mom". Her heart was always open, and she saw the best in everyone. She was an impassioned bookworm and believed walking was key to her long life. She loved her catholic faith and actively practiced it in all aspects of her life. She loved, and she was loved. Our hearts are broken as we will miss her dearly, but we are comforted knowing that she is finally reunited with her husband, family and friends in heaven.
Whenever anyone left her house, mom would be at the kitchen window waving to signify her love. Helen never liked the finality of saying goodbye, so she would say it in different languages. She would say, "Auf Wiedersehen, Arrivederci, Ciao, Sayonara, Au Revoir". It's never really goodbye mom, it's like you also said, "see you later alligator".
Friends are invited to join the family Friday, February 10, 12:00 pm at St. Kateri At St. Margaret Mary Church for her funeral mass Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 445 Kings Highway S., Rochester, N.Y. 14617.
