Obituary of Robert A. Schomske

ROBERT A. SCHOMSKE

Passed away on Friday, August 11 at the age of 94. He is survived by his loving Wife Olga of 72 years,Daughter Donna Schomske Fouquet, son-in law Bruce, Son Robert J. Schomske, daughter-in-law Janet. Grandchildren Tracy Schomske Hopkins & husband Sean, Renee Fouquet DeRue and husband Scott, Eric Schomske and wife Tamara. Great-grandchildren Drew and Decker Hopkins, Kenley DeRue and Coco Schomske.

Bob was the President of his class at Edison Tech and graduated in 1947. While at Edison he was on the track team and ran all over New York State. He married Olga Sorochty on October 7, 1950 and was drafted into the U.S. Army two weeks later. Bob was stationed in Texas with the 2nd Armor Division then shipped to Germany. While serving in Germany he ran track all over Europe. Due to an injury he missed the opportunity to try out for the 1952 Olympics.

Upon his return to the US, he worked as a tool and die maker at Frieden and Commercial Control for 5 years. In 1956 Bob & Olga moved to Irondequoit with their 2 young children. Bob worked at Xerox for 35 years and retired in 1990.

His family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Friends are invited to join the family Friday, August 18, 10:00 am at St. Kateri At St. Cecilia Church for his funeral mass. Interment Irondequoit Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
