Obituary of Richard F. Walbroel

Richard F. Walbroel, a man who spent his whole life putting the needs of others before his own, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 26th, 2023, at 77 years of age.  He was born on May 12th, 1946, to Peter and Rosalie Walbroel.  Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Roxanne who passed away at age 41.  He is survived by his daughter Jennifer with her fiancé Ron Rutherford; son Rich with his wife Maggie, his grandchildren, Reid and Cal, and his brother, Peter with his wife Sandy. 

Dick grew up in Irondequoit NY with his parents and brother.  He began his education at West Irondequoit High School and later went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.  After many years as a sales representative for Loeffler's and G.A. Kayser and Son's Inc, he retired early to care for his parents still residing in Irondequoit.  This is just one example of his continued selflessness; after already losing his wife at a young age his love and compassion did not waver as he continued to pour his heart and soul into the care of his young children.  Upon the passing of his parents, he continued his strong work ethic and cared for his community as a bus driver with First Student for 19 years. 

Dick's greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and family, especially if ice cream or chocolate pie were involved.  In his younger years he could be found on the golf course bright and early on a Saturday morning in the summer with his brother Pete.  He also spent countless hours traveling to golf tournaments to cheer on his son every chance he had.  While he did not play much in recent years, his passion for the game of golf and Notre Dame football continued to this day. 

Richard F Walbroel will be profoundly missed but the impact of his love will forever be in our hearts and those who were lucky enough to know him. A memorial service will be held on June 21, 2024 at 11:00am at White Haven Memorial Park (All Seasons Chapel). Inurnment to follow the service.
