Obituary of Gerald M. Benwitz

Gerald Martin Benwitz, aged 62, of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2024, in Rochester, surrounded by his loving wife, son, and daughter-in-law. He was known for his kind, brave, and loving nature, along with a wicked sense of humor.

A Funeral Mass will be held on March 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Avenue.

Gerald will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Lisa; son and daughter-in-law, Giovanni and Bella; mother and father, Cathleen and Gary Benwitz; sisters Donna (Jeff Block) and Barbara (Todd) Pedeville, in-laws Joseph (Maryann) Inquagiato;  nephews and nieces Corey (Erica) Pedeville, Shaunna Pedeville, and Jacob Pedeville,  and many beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anna and Martin Marron, Helen and Gerald Benwitz; godparents, Leta and Richard Benwitz; uncles, Gene Marron, Francis Marron, Joseph Marron, Michael Marron,  and Rev. Donald Benwitz; cousins Louann Haney, Tommy Marron, and Adam Marron.

Gerald's career as a security guard at Monroe County Hospital brought him a great sense of pride and fulfillment, and he was honored to work there.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Open Door Mission in memory of Gerald. His suffering has ended; may his soul rest in eternal peace. Arrangements entrusted to Phil Profetta.
