As a local television reporter, it was always easy to interview Arnie--even when he had to face answering the hard questions. He was ready to take the heat when politics got too hot. He was also ready to help wherever he was needed. He was a rare combination of selfless service and protective leadership. He truly wanted to guide his community in a positive direction. We were blessed that Arnie worked so hard to improve the lives of others in the Rochester region. God bless the angels....Rebecca Leclair

I had the pleasure to work with Arnie through his expertise of the Trust Department at Chase Lincoln First Bank. His Contributions were precise in every manner, in .extending his knowledge He was patient and felt humble sharing a background to whatever the procedure you were working on
together. Out of my 35 years at Chase, there was no one (besides myself) :-) as totally loyal to the Bank.

To the Eckert Family....I worked with Arnie at Lincoln First Bank and admired his commitment not only to the bank but the entire community. His goal was to make our region a better place and improve our quality of life......and without a doubt he did just that. At his request I served on the COMIDA Board, the Monroe County Deferred Compensation Committee and the Greater Rochester Sports Facitly Corporation.....all to further his goal to make the Community a better and more prosperous one. Arnie's lifelong efforts had a positive impact on everyone who has lived in Monroe County.

To his family, I am saddened by your loss. As the Training Director at 911, I worked closely with Mr. Eckert on the 911 Operating Practices Board for many years... He was affectionately referred to as "the Father of 911 in Monroe County" as he served on the legislature and chaired the committee for 911 when 911 was being developed. He was instrumental in creating the service we all have today. Thank you dear friend for everything you did for and in this community.

To Sally and family,
It was my pleasure to work with Arnie on several levels. Always a gentleman on a personal level, ever a knowledgeable source of information to me & my colleagues, sharing his wealth of resources from the County government to those of us in Town arenas.
I don’t want to miss an opportunity, also, to acknowledge my late husband Tom’s appreciation of having a great working relationship with Arnie when he was Dir. of Real Property Tax. He’d trudge up to the President’s office - he usually called the 4 th floor “enemy country” - to discuss some financial matter only to remark later that it never was difficult to have those conversations because Arnie was always so knowledgeable & prepared about the subject.
Please know you are in my thoughts & prayers. Having so recently lost Tom, I am offering a special plea for strength for you as you walk this sad journey to put him to rest.
Sincerely, Carol McMaus

I am so sad to hear of Arnie's passing but I know his was a life well lived. Arnie was a giant in County government from an era when legislators took on big issues without fear of consequences. I learned almost all I know of County government from Arnie. As his assistant when he was President of the Legislature, he would dictate letters to me and call me "the lad." He was a grandfatherly mentor to an incredible staff in their early twenties, many of whom would grow up to lead local government. He would hold court among the young staffers and regale us with inside stories and public policy debates. Arnie had a great sense of humor and mirth, but imparted upon me a deep appreciation for the seriousness of public service. A fiscal conservative and a man of deep faith, he was always a class act. His legacy includes the consolidated 911 system, flat property taxes, restoring the internal audit function, saving the elephants at the zoo, establishing a defined contribution retirement plan and equalizing the sheriff's pension benefits. A pipe bomb scare didn't deter him from implementing a deer management program that reduced out of control accident rates, and he was a fierce advocate for smoke-free restaurants before it was the consensus. Arnie knew his facts and stood up for what he believed, even if it wasn't popular.
Teddy Roosevelt famously said, the "credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena." Arnold J. Eckert lived his life in the arena and we are all better for it.
