Obituary of Carl A. Silvio
Rochester, NY, passed at home on May 16, 2024 at the age of 72.
He was born in Rochester, NY in 1951 to Peter and Marianne (Cardarelli) Silvio and raised in the Laurelton Neighborhood. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic School and graduated from Aquinas Institute before earning a degree from SUNY Fredonia. For more than a decade, Carl resided in California fighting for the rights of workers as a union representative. Carl moved back to Rochester in 1990 to be near family. He retired as the president of Rochester Business Institute/Everest Institute in 2015.
Predeceased by parents Peter and Marianne, brother Larry, and sister Carol, brother-in-law Joseph Fornieri. Carl is survived by his loving wife Peg, step-daughters Kate (Kevin) Stiner and Claire Delaney, sister Beatrice Fornieri, nieces and nephews: Joseph (Pam) Fornieri, Kathleen Diamond, Peter (Ruth) Fornieri, as well as great nieces and nephews: Isabella, Janet, Natalie, Joseph, JJ, and Helena.
A life of the party family man that loved to share his cooking with family and friends. As a cook, Carl was known for his sauce, meatballs, stuffed artichokes, cardoons, and pizzas which he would often make for special occasions.
His zest for life magnetically attracted lifelong friendships from the Laurelton neighborhood to Fredonia to California and back. Carl held these relationships close to his heart including those forged on many long walks with his best four-legged companions, Wally and Benny.
Hikes, boat trips, fishing, and great food were to be expected annually at the Silvio/Fornieri treks to Sunset Beach in the Adirondack Mountains, a family tradition dating back to the 1950s.
Carl’s legacy will live on with those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 21 between 4-7 pm at Paul Harris Funeral Home Family Center, 560 Kings Hwy So ( located behind the funeral home) and a funeral service will be held May 22 at 10 am at St. Ambrose Church, 25 Empire Blvd. Interment Holy Sepluchre Cemetery.
