Dad,
You raised me to be a strong and independent man and to always believe in myself. I could not have asked for a better role model and father than you. You have no idea how hard it was to say goodbye to you, but I understand why you had to leave me. I have no regrets having you as a father and you will always and forever be alive in my heart! May you rest in peace forever with no more suffering. I promise to raise Logan in the way you raised me and promise he will never forget you. I miss you now and forever! Please look over me and my family and keep us safe! Love "Sport"

Dick-you will be missed. We remember how friendly and welcoming you were to Dan and I when we moved into our first home next door to you in Irondequoit. We could not have asked for better neighbor or friend. You were always available to lend a hand or joke around. Halloween next door to you was hysterical and I will remember that with fondness this year as we take our children trick or treating. Whenever I needed help or advice on gardening in my first home, you were very informative and helpful! We honor you and will miss you and each time we plant a tree or admire our japanese maple, we will think of you!

We met Dick at the Irondequoit Farmers Market many years ago. He had the most beautiful Japanese Maples on display and he convinced us they were easy to grow. Each time we updated the landscaping, my wife and I would visit Dick and bring home another tree for a new focal point in our yard. We have three unique examples of his art. Today's obituary made us very sad. We will always remember him every time we look at one of his trees. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

I'm writing this for my husband Joe who worked with Dick at the Monroe county Parks dept. He admired the vast knowledge of all things green that Dick had. We have a Jap maple in our yard that came to us via Dick although it was just a sapling( I didn't think it would make it) my husband has lovingly cared for it with advice from Dick and now six years later it is a thriving tree!! From one plant lover to another Thank you Mr. Sage

We met Dick 12 years ago at Agway. He advised us ontrees & shrubs for our newly purchased property; he planted over 20 here. Some he transported from PA for us. All, plus one special Japanese maple, are thriving in our yard. Dick was endlessly patient, even re-locating trees when we changed our minds. He kept all appointments, and easily shared his humor & knowledge. His enthusiasm for Durand Park led us to visit and marvel at the trees there. He even stopped by a few years ago just to say hi and see how our trees are doing. Dick was a giving, hardworking guy, who left the earth a better place for his being here. We think of him as we admire our plantings, especially our many towering Leland Cypresses. They are risky in this zone, but Dick believed they'd grow here near the lake since they grow in Durand, and he was correct. We are saddened to learn of his passing. Our sympathy goes to his family.

I have always enjoyed talking to Dick about horticulture and plants in general. I was impressed with both his knowledge as a plantsman, and his dedication to Durand-Eastman Park. Shortly before he died, he offered to give me a tour of the maples he had added to the Durand collection. I am sad not to have a personal tour from him now, but he is still a part of Durand, and also Highland Botanical Park, where a collection of his Japanese Maple cultivars are planted near the Lamberton Conservatory. I will miss him.

Since I had the pleasure of working with Dick for a number of years at Du Pont, it is a privilege to "light a candle" in his memory. Dick was an intelligent and thoughtful man who will greatly be missed.

I was a chemist at DuPont and did did a variety of jobs for me. Always pleasant and full of ideas and suggestions. I have run into Dick up at D_E park and then found out about the good work he was doing there. I was shocked when I saw his age and think of him as much younger. I have passed on the info from the obit to others who I know have the best of memories of Dick.
