Obituary of Charles F. Thomaschek

Charles F. Thomaschek, 74, of Webster, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Despite health challenges for the last 8 years, Charlie remained optimistic and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Born on December 25, 1949, to Richard Carl Thomaschek and Ana Lydia Vázquez in Washington D.C., Charlie grew up in a number of towns across Westchester County, NY. He graduated from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, NY, in 1967. After high school, he joined the United States Army, serving in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division. For his combat duty, he received a Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, among other honors. After Vietnam, he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, before returning home.

After his military service, Charlie attended college while working for several manufacturing companies in NY, NJ, and CT. He later went into business for himself and founded an Engineering and Technical Search Consulting Firm in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of NY. He successfully ran his business for over 30 years, which he relocated to Rochester, NY, in the early 2000’s. Charlie remained active in his business and maintained professional relationships with partners throughout his life.

Charlie and his wife, Christine, shared 59 years together, meeting when they were teenagers. They would form a lifelong bond and recently celebrated their 52nd year of marriage on May 20th. Together, they grew their family, instilling important values and surrounding their children with love. His legacy continues through his sons, and their extended families. A good neighbor and always ready to lend a hand, Charlie was known for his backyard barbecues, delighting friends and family with his famous Polish kielbasa and burgers. His joy was evident, often expressed by rubbing his hands together with a smile and a laugh.

Charlie was a passionate baseball coach and a dedicated supporter of the local Boy Scouts, investing in the growth and development of his children and local youth. He found peace in fishing, enjoyed the company of his beloved beagles and basset hounds, he was a life-long Buffalo Bills fan, cheered on the NY Mets and Toronto Blue Jays, was a beer aficionado, an avid bird watcher and a music lover.

Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Richie Thomaschek. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine; sons, Chuck, Lyle and Keith and their wives; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings, Donna, Rita and Regina; brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Charlie’s services and burial, with military honors, will be held at the Western New York National Cemetery on June 21, 2024, at 10:00 am.

The Thomaschek family requests donations be made to The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) at pcf.org in lieu of flowers.
