Obituary of Charles B. Marquardt Sr.

 

Webster- aged 91, passed away peacefully Thursday August 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. A devoted husband of 67 years, Charlie was the beloved father of five children, cherished grandfather of 15, and adored great-grandfather of 18.

A man of unwavering faith, Charlie was a guiding light and an exemplary figure to his children and grandchildren. He graduated from DeSales High School in Geneva, NY, where he was a high school basketball star. Following high school, he attended Friars of Atonement Seminary and later graduated from St. Bonaventure University.

Charlie was a talented salesman, having worked for Fanny Farmer, John D. Brush Company, Ithaca Journal, and AI Root Candle Company. His exceptional skills were recognized when he received an award from the Ithaca Journal for the largest increase in subscription sales in one year.

A committed blood donor, Charlie dedicated 35 years to the American Red Cross, donating over 20 gallons of blood. He was also an avid golfer, holding the record for the lowest score at Seneca Lake Country Club for many years.  His love of horses led him to become a member of the Kentucky Colonels.

Known for his storytelling and conversational skills, Charlie was a loving husband and a devoted family man. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a passionate sports enthusiast.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Julius, son, Charles B. Marquardt, Jr.; granddaughter, Mary Catherine Marquardt. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Joan Marquardt; daughter-in-law, Marie Marquardt; daughters, Barbara (Mark) Lisena, Deborah ( Gregory) Elliott, Pamela (Edward) Knauf; son, Michael (Judy) Marquardt; grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Henderson, Laura Cupo, Matthew (Casey) Marquardt, Nicholas (Brianne) Lisena, Justin (Lindsey) Lisena, Kaitlyn Lisena, Braddon (Daniela) Elliott, Gordon (Meghan) Elliott, Mitchell Elliott, Finnegan Marquardt, Joseph Marquardt, Lauren (Gaven) Ehrlich, Colleen (Anthony) Venette, and Erin (Benjamin) Bovenzi; 18 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Judith Wethey along with several nieces, cousins, and many dear friends.

Friends are invited to meet the family Saturday, August 10, 10:00am at St, Anns Home Chapel 1500 Portland Ave, Rochester NY 14621 for his funeral mass. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St Jude Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38105.

Charles Marquardt, Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
