Obituary of Susan Kathryn Greenwald Sayre

                                                                          " Always a Kind Word"

Susan “Sue” Sayre, 85, passed away peacefully on October 3rd in Rochester, New York.

In her earlier years, Susan was an avid sailor and talented musician. She traveled the world as a youngster, continued traveling with her husband and family and had many wonderful adventures. Susan was devoted to her faith. Susan lived a full life, from her childhood being a mischievous, yet overachieving young girl, her musical talent, sailing championships and world travels. Susan married in 1959 to the love of her life until his passing in 1987.

Susan had a Master’s degree in Education from Temple University.  She taught grades K through 6 in California, English as a Second Language in Tokyo, Japan, Special Education in Bronx, New York, was a church organist for over 45 years, taught piano, and substitute taught for many years.

Susan always had a kind word to family, friends, and strangers. She was so appreciative of helpers.  Susan had a knack for finding the good in everyone. Susan’s life has both affected and touched so very many. Susan lived in a manner that reminded us to be grateful and to let those in our lives always know that they are loved and appreciated. Susan will be forever loved and alive in the hearts of all who remember her.

This kindness will be remembered as her gift.

Susan is predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Sayre, Sr., parents, Dakotah U. Greenwald, and Myrna Ideker Greenwald, sister, Janice (Allen) Smith, and son, Donald R. Sayre Jr.

Susan is survived by her children, Mark W. Sayre, Fairbanks, AK, Kathryn Marchet’, Ridgefield, CT, Michelle R. (Anthony) Sinistore, Salt Point, NY, Suzanne M. (Donald) Lewandoski, Webster, NY, and Lena M. Sayre, Webster, NY; brother, William (Ann) Greenwald, Delmar, NY; grandchildren, Jessica L. Williams, Folsom, CA, Steven A. (Rebecca) Williams, Briarcliff, NY, Anthony P. (Lindsay) Sinistore Jr, Salt Point, NY, Matthew O. (Kelsey) Williams, Fort Collins, CO, Thomas W. Sinistore, Salt Point, NY, Austin Sayre, Fairbanks, AK, Carly R. Sinistore, Scottsdale, AZ, Donald A. Williams, Ridgefield, CT, Sarah M. Lewandoski, Webster, NY, Margaret K. Williams, Ridgefield, CT, Grace K. Lewandoski, Webster, NY; and five great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.   

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at The Bethel Cemetery in Croton-on-the-Hudson, NY on October 19th at noon.
