John was a very kind and generous person. I have had the honor of knowing Mr. Mendick personally and professionally. He was always very helpful and supportive of our efforts in keeping the Town of Irondequoit a great place to live and raise a family. He has had a major impact on many wonderful projects, however our fondest personal moment was when he took the time to present our son Ryan with his first Easter bunny at Christ the King Church. That bunny has a special place in Ryans room just as John Mendick has a special place in the hearts of so many people. He will be missed but his legacy will last forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mendick family. The Tantalo Family

I grew up on Sullivan St near the meat market in the 1950s and I remember going there at least once a week and getting a piece of baloney to eat from John as my Mom bought meat for the week. I remember him as such a friendly, kind, and helpful person. My prayers are with all of you at this time.

Dear Peter and family; Your father was a giant among men. A man who loved his family and his community and was generous to both. He was always ready to step in to support the causes he believed in, not only in money, but also with his time. His wry sense of humor, his sparkly eyes and his gentle ways will be sorely missed. Our family has known John and his family for over 25 yrs. My husband and I bought our home on Wimbledon Rd across from Peggy and Bill. Within a year my Mom, Mary rented an apartment @ Imperial Court from John. He was a very attentive landlord, and with his sons John and Peter, was always thoughtful @ caring of Mom's needs. She moved in with us about 8yrs ago but whenever we ran into John or Peter, they always asked how she was doing. He was a respectful and caring man who we know loved his family and was especially attentive to his daughter Patty!! He will be greatly missed.
