Ival O. Salyer posted a condolence
I am truly sorry that I was unable to come to Rochester to attend the last rites of your father Frank Richards Sr. However, I wanted to take this means to say a last goodbye and to extend my very best military salute to my WWII veteran brother-in-law and friend whom I both admired and respected.
Your father knew very well that there are only three important values in life--family, faith, and work. In my opinion Frank and your mother was a real successes in all three of these areas.
Family & Work: Frank along with your mother provided a safe, secure and happy environment in which you all grew up. When sorrow struck at Gary's passing, the family grieved together, but reunited to go on. Frank was a devoted husband and father. Frank life work at Eastman Kodak gave him great photographic skills and his pride in you kids was reflected in the 100's of photos of you children as you grew up-- now a legacy upon which to look back upon.
Frank was an avid sport fan -- especially those NY Yankees and the Rochester AAA Club. Some of my most pleasant memories with your family were our annual summers and outdoor picnics. Frank always cooked the hot dogs and did an excellent job of it. After dinner we engaged in many vigorous games of ping pong where the older generation -- me and Frank, were pitted against the younger generation Frank Jr, Gary, and Ival Lee. I think the older generation won at least some of those games. They made sure to involve the whole family in games of bochie ball out in the back yard.
Faith: Both of your parents were faithful to their church and actively participated in its ministries such as the food kitchen and other missionary efforts. You can be real proud of both of your parents who were in my definition a real success. I am sure that the world is indeed a little better off because of their life and dedication to helping others.
Finally as you continue down the pathway of life may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warmly on your face and a gentle rain water your garden and cause your flowers to bloom. And until we all meet again, be assured that the Lord will hold your parents and you safely and securely in the palm of His hand.
As always,
Uncle Ival

The quip I most remember Uncle Frank saying to his baby sister Jane (my mother) was, "How's my FAVORITE sister?"--ofcourse we all knew that title was easy for her to maintain since she was his ONLY sister!
Mom always talked with great affection about her 3 brothers despite their numerous sibling pranks on their baby sister growing up. She always chuckled when retelling the story of how Al and Frank used to wrap their long legs around her chair at the dinner table causing her to do all but a face plant on the table whenever she tried to get up. I remember Uncle Frank still protectively wrapping her in a hug on those long goodbyes in the driveway at Senca Rd. when we would come visit. She loved him very much.
When mom passed away back a couple of year's ago, we were able to visit with Uncle Frank and I made a point of saying to him...."you know YOU are MY favorite uncle". At that time he was 93, so he smirked just a little before he asked if he was my ONLY uncle! Though that was true, I can honestly say that he long since had that title in my book.
Mom and dad asked us kids where and who we would want to live with should anything ever happen to them--their was never a skipped beat-- all three of us chorused "Uncle Frank and Aunt Vera". We were too young to really know much about our adult relatives...what we knew was that when we were at their house we always felt welcome, had loads of fun, and that they actually invited us to come back when the visit was over...that put their stock really high with us kids.
My heart is with all of you this day as you celebrate the life of a great father, husband, brother, and uncle.
Love Your Cuz,
April
