Schaefer, Walter Leo Irondequoit: Walt went home to be present with the Lord on Sunday August 14, 2011 at the age of 71. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol, his mother, Geraldine, father, Edward, father in-law George Casey and brother-in-law, Terry Casey. Walt is survived by his children Christopher (Julie) Schaefer, Melinda (Steven) Richards, Lynn (Ron) Turney, Sharee (James) DeLancey, Stephen (Debra) Knowlton, grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Matteson, Evan, Cassandra, Allison and Anna, loving brother, Carl Schaefer, in-laws Marie Casey, Thomas (Kay) Casey, Nancy Brelos, Judy (James) Weld, Patricia McGovern, Jeannie Casey as well as many nieces, nephews, special cousins and life-long friends. Walt inspired so many with his unlimited strength, perseverance and faith as he tackled the challenges of an unpredictable disease head-on. The family would like to remember the staff and residents at Parkwood Heights for their years of friendship and support. The family wishes to extend their warmest thank you to the staff and caregivers at Reservoir 2 St. John's Home for their love, respect, sharing and caring they provided over the last year. His family will receive friends THURSDAY 4:00 - 7:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Friends are invited to meet the family FRIDAY 9:45am at BLESSED KATERI AT ST. MARGARET MARY CHURCH for his funeral mass. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Veterans Outreach Center, 459 South Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620 or a charity of your choice.
