That Jack was truly at home in a machine shop was best demonstrated in his retirement. As he aged he used a walker to help him get around. But let him enter his shop, and once hie abandoned his walker to grip the closest shop machine, and one could practically see the years drop away. He would stand a little taller and his. voice would become a little stronger. He was clearly "home" with his beloved lathes, saws, milling machine and drill presses.
My other strong memory of Jack was as a raconteur. He loved a good story and gave many vignettes from his own days of sailing and working.
He enjoyed his frequent visits to the LDR Charpit for Breakfast, where he could count on seeing friends from as far back as his childhood.
Sail on old friend and mentor, with a fair wind at your back, the spinnaker pulling, and with the sun always shining.
