Obituary of Arline A. Wittwer

Wittwer, Arline A. Webster: Died peacefully after a short illness on June 27, 2012 in Rochester, NY at the age of 94. A native of Nebraska, she was born in Saline County and graduated from Dorchester High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in Business Administration. She worked her way through college as an assistant to college professors and as an attendant in a mental institution in Lincoln. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for The Hub, a well-known Lincoln department store. She met her husband, Robert J. Wittwer of Jamesville, NY while he was stationed in Lincoln for training during WWII. At the end of the war they married in Jamesville and started their family, land lived in Manlius, NY during 39 years of married life. Arline worked at a number of Syracuse and Manlius companies as a bookkeeper and cost accountant, and retired from Magnavox/Philips in 1983. Robert predeceased her in 1985, and she continued to live in Manlius after retirement, volunteering for many years at the Manlius Public Library. In 2003 she moved to Webster, NY to be near family, and resided at Baywinde/Castle Point until 2011, when she moved to The Maplewood Nursing Home in Webster. She is survived by her three children: Jon R. (Rita) Wittwer of Grinnell, IA, Joan R. (John Jr.) Batzold of Webster, NY, and Jerry J. (Lori) Wittwer of Warners, NY, six grandchildren: Rita Wittwer of Chesapeake, VA, Jennifer (Everett) Parks of Belvedere, NC, Jon Wittwer of Chesapeake, VA, James Wittwer of Syracuse, NY, Lisa (Dennis)Barrett of Syracuse, NY, and Gregory Wittwer of Fulton, NY, brother-in-law Frederick Wittwer of Syracuse, NY and sister-in-law Marion Hart of Chittenango, NY, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in NY and across the country. She is predeceased by her only sister, Margaret Struthers of Denver, CO. Her family will receive friends SUNDAY 1-4pm at the Paul W. Harris Funeral Home (570 Kings Hwy South) and also on MONDAY 5-8pm at the Eaton-Tubbs-Schepp Funeral Home, 7191 East Genesee Street Fayetteville, NY 13066.
