Thank you, Helen, for all you did to protect Thousand Acre Swamp and open it for hiking, birding, and nature study. Thousands of people enjoyed the beauty of this very special place thanks to your efforts to protect it and provide trails and interpretation. You have inspired generations of conservation leaders. On behalf of all of us at The Nature Conservancy, thank you.

I knew Helen through Irondequoit United Church of Christ and was continually amazed by her deep engagement in life, her grit, and her seemingly endless energy well into her 90s -- a truly inspirational example of how to live fully.

I met Helen when I was hired as a Guidance Counselor at Dake School in 1967. I
regarded her as a hardworking leader dedicated to her work which I believe made WICSD one of the best school districts in the U.S.
She nominated me for Beta Eta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma of which I am still a member. She even encouraged me to go on some of her very enjoyable bird walks.
Helen was a special woman. She will be missed.
I send prayers for her and her family. May God Bless Helen and her family.

What a wonderful and inspiring head of library services we had at Irondequoit High school before Miss Rice entered administration and retirement. She gave her graduating Library Service Corps members a parting book, and 40 years later I was able to thank her for a much used copy of Robert Frost poems. In her retirement she traveled extensively and lectured with wonderful accounts of birds the world over. She was an inspiration when I was a teenager, and a truly phenomenal speaker to the Retired Teachers of the Rochester, NY area. Miss Rice will be remembered as a witty, compassionate lady who is sure to be loved long into the future.

What a wonderful and special person Helen Rice was in my life! While in HS she knew I was an avid reader - thus every year of HS - each day she would have 3 new books for me to read - she kept the list of all the books - on weekends she would have 6 books ready. When one of my teachers said there was no way I could've read the books on my list (about 70+) Ms. Rice pointed out that yes my list was wrong - and she produced a list of over 150 books.
She was a wonderful influence on me - and on my becoming who I am today. Oh that this world had more wonderful people such as she is and was.
May we in her memory follow her example in our lives out of respect for her!
