"Uncle" Al was a favorite of our family, and an especially dear friend to my father (his cousin, with Ada being my grandfather's sister), Walter Sr., who grew up with him in the St. Catharines area. Of course, Lu was even more loveable and a great loss several years ago.
Since a very memorable and warm family reunion in 2004, my little branch of the family has made a point of stopping in to see him on our trips back to the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario and/or to my hometown, down by Corning, NY. Long ago, I met the younger generation during a couple family visits, but fate has not allowed me to become friends with them in adulthood. To them and to the younger generations, please know that as long as I live, our home in San Mateo, CA, has a couple spare beds and is your home-away-from-home in the San Francisco area. 650-570-5567 (home) or 650-773-0596 (cell).
I just now heard of the death, and in a very strange coincidence, I have tried to call him several times in recent weeks, including a couple times in the last few days. Oddly, his phone answered, and I could hear noises, but no voices. Go figure!
I want to go to the memorial on Wednesday, and will be looking into it right after sending this, but with such short notice it is not likely. Be assured that Larry, Jenny, Carol and myself are broken hearted to have watched him degrade and finally pass away. It is hard to find a silver lining, but I know his quality of life was not that great recently. I hope you all can use his best qualities as a springboard to improving yourself in his memory. Love to all!!!
