To the family of Sam Cooper:
I first met Sam at the Geriatric Pilots Association. When the Experimental Aircraft Association approached Sam about building a local plane and hanging it at the airport, Sam heartily supported the idea. I worked closely with him in building the Taylor Chummy and refurbishing the Ohm Racer. Sam supported local aviation like preserving the old control tower.
Even though Sam was only 3 years older than me, I looked on him as a mentor/father figure. I wrote to the D&C, supporting naming the airport after him. They didn't print the letter.
There was no better person ever, representing aviation. We were both WW2 Navy guys, except that I didn't fly. I was on a battle cruiser in the Pacific.
Sam will be missed, but never forgotten.

Dear Scott and family,
There are some people who really make a difference in a lot of people's lives. Your Dad was one of those people! He obviously made a difference in his family's life. He made a difference in helping to keep this world free from tyranny. He made a difference to the families in the Evan's Farm Tract, by constantly thinking of events that would bring people together. He made a huge difference at the airport. He was always friendly and welcoming to everyone he met, something he passed down to you.
Our sympathy to you, your wife, your kids! May you feel God's comforting presence, and may your Dad be rejoicing in the presence of Jesus.
Love, Pete and Roberta

Truly a great man. Sam was the driving force behind MANY successful Armed Forces Day celebrations, especially the Luncheons. I always went looking for Sam whenever I passed thru the ROC Airport.

So honored to have known Sam for many years! ... His late son, Tripp, was my best friend, and we graduated from Brighton High School in 1969. As you can read from his obituary, Sam lived life to the fullest. I was privileged to be invited to many of the Cooper family functions, and recognized that his attributes were passed down to his sons and grandchildren. I'll always remember him greeting me with, "Hey, young fella!" ... RIP Sam!

While a member of Operation Welcome Home, Sam Cooper helped to welcome home at the airport the warriors returning from Desert Storm, as well as others. He helped organize the welcoming groups and let us know when and where we were to gather. He was also available to organize Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve operations. Monroe County was lucky to have such a wonderful man.

I was saddened to read Sam's obituary in the D&C, but felt better knowing that he had such a long life filled with so many accomplishments. I first met Sam when I took the US Airways Fearful Flyers course at the Rochester Airport in June of 1990. His support and the information that he provided helped me take my first flight after many years of being afraid to do so. He even met my husband & me at the gate when we returned from that Florida trip. I have continued to fly dozens of times since then. He was a very kind man, so enthusiastic about anything to do with flying. He shared many stories about his flying career with me. I was so blessed to take that course and come in contact with Sam. It does not matter how old someone is, I know that it is always difficult to lose someone dear. My sincere condolences to Sam's family. Peace and love to you all.
