I had the opportunity of being in 1960 class at McQuaid with Mike. Although our pathways separated shortly thereafter, I wanted to offer my prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Mary Lou and family,
Our deepest condolences to you and all the members of your family on the passing of your husband Mike. What a guy. Mike was the best of the best, bar none. Always enjoyed my chats with him and you. I remember when I joined the Monroe County DA`s office back in 1979 and was assigned to City Court. Mike was also assigned there at that time by the RPD. It was always nice to see a friendly face in the City Court as we did the daily docket call and the preliminary hearings in the afternoon sessions.
Mike and you have been long time friends of the Moynihan family going back to the days on the job when our respective fathers George and Jeremiah were on the job. Think my twin brother John and myself first met Mike when he was either dating you or you had recently married. George and Gert were taking care of John and moi during the wake and funeral for my Uncle Michael aka MJ Moynihan circa 1964 or so.
May Mike have eternal happiness in Paradise with the Big Guy upstairs. May you all be there for each other in this time of loss and grief. God bless you and be with you all in the days ahead.
Deepest sympathy,
Jim and Hiroko Moynihan

Condolences, and prayers are sent to the Lancer family. I'm sorry I could not make his service Monday morning. I have good memories of Mike and his time with RPD. He was a compassionate and honest cope, who prided himself on giving his best effort every day he worked. God bless and best wishes, Jim Volke, retired RPD

Our condolences to the family. I worked with Mike when I was a rookie and he was my senior officer in the old unit C fourth district on midnights. Us together had bosses wondering especially his father-in-law and my father what we would be up to. Mike was always very considered of the people of Rochester. He showed compassion and was a no nonsense man. I continued to work with him at Roch War Memorial and remined friends. I often think of him and the experiences we had on the job. He was a professional and proud to call him my friend. Ray and Myra Slattery

I had the honor and privilege of working with Mike during our careers with the RPD. Unfortunately, an out of town business commitment will prevent me from attending his service. He exemplified the best of law enforcement in general, and specifically the Rochester Police Department. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Mike was a great person to know and to work with. He is truly one of the people who should have his picture in the dictionary when you look up the word Sergeant. He loved life, and he loved his job. He took car of his people and they respected him for that. It was an honor to know and work with him. My condolences to the family and may you gain strength from the man that Mike was, and always will be. RIP Mike!

Mary Lou, I am so deeply saddened to learn of Mike's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. Although I never really got to know him very well on the job, Mike became a friend through working together at the War Memorial and later as a partner at the money room of the ballpark. I truly enjoyed working with him. He was always upbeat and the best partner anyone could ask for. I missed him when he left the ballpark and I will miss him even more now. I will remember him fondly. My prayers are with you both.

As one of the many younger cousins of Michael I have fond memories of the times we spent together as kids. Although we were only 7 years apart it seemed like decades when I was younger. Michael was always kind and thoughtful towards me. In particular I remember one occasion when he was home on leave from the service. Many of the aunts, uncles and cousins were gathered at the Lancer home. Several cousins, including me, were playing a game and I was losing badly. Michael sat next to me and 'encouraged' me thus causing me to win the game. Some of my cousins may call this cheating but I like to remember it as a kind, older cousin encouraging his younger cousin to develop confidence and perseverance. I will always be grateful to him and the support he offered when my brother Peter died suddenly at age 28. Michael was always kind and caring to his many aunts and uncles. As a family we were lucky to have Michael to head up the cousin contingent.
Love to you Mary Lou, your family, the Lancers and all the cousins,
Karen Monna
