Michael John Lancer Irondequoit: Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on January 30, 2020 at the age of 78, after a long illness. Mike was born in Rochester's 19th Ward on February 2, 1941, the son of William and Madeline Lancer and brother to Kathy (Dan) Cholish, Timothy (Mary Jo), Patrick (Marge) and Ellen (Jim) Reitter. He graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. In 1965, Mike joined the Rochester Police Department, where he proudly served for 31 years. In 1965, he married the love of his life and best friend, Mary Lou Richardson and together raised their three children, Patricia (Kenneth) Duarte, Michelle (Daniel) Bryson and Michael (Melissa LeBlanc). He adored his grandchildren, Annie and Addie Bryson and Caroline and Jack Duarte. Throughout his life, Mike was a member of the Rochester Locust Club and the Association of Rochester Police and Area Law Enforcement Retirees (ARPALER), St. Thomas the Apostle Church and Lakeshore Country Club. Mike loved his Rochester Police Department brothers and sisters, the City of Rochester, the Town of Irondequoit, his street, his porch, the Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Cubs. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, preferably over a good meal, and following their pursuits and interests as they make their way in the world. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, February 3 at 9:30 am at St. Kateri at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 4536 St. Paul Blvd. Interment Holy Sepulchre. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rochester Locust Club, ARPALER or Hildebrandt Hospice Center.
