To all of Jack's family: When Jack was a lector at St. Andrews, things went smoothly. His faith was palpable and he spoke in a way that all could hear. When I would compliment Jack, he would say "if only I could play golf that well". In addition, Jack always looked great. His life was a model for the rest of us to follow. Deacon Phil Yawman

Once again Grace, my Sincerest Condolences to you and your lovely family on the passing of John. As you know I had the good fortune of meeting John at the United States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland better known as Boot Camp, in September, 1952,
We were kind of invaded by about 10 recruits who hailed from Cortland, New York. I and my two friends were from New York City. So all of us being New Yorker’s became friends. I must say the Cortland group were very nice and friendly guys.
Not long after living together we felt like we knew each other for years.
I believe Leo Mahar was their spokesman and it didn’t take long for Leo to become our Company leader with John by his side. Leo did a great job in keeping us in line and making sure we were following the Naval training program in order for all of us to graduate together.
In basic training you are confined to the Training facility. I recall at times just siting around with my friends and John, Phil Cinquanti and a few of Johns other friends. Don’t know what we were talking about, possibly just getting to know each other better.
After we graduated Boot Camp, we were granted a short leave to go home. When we returned from leave we received our assignments. John was the only one of his group and I of my friends to get assigned to the Battleship USS Wisconsin.
As luck would have it both John and I wound up in the same division but different jobs. He was a yeoman and I a photographer. John had a rack in the office where he worked. So I didn’t see him much except when we would run into each other during chow time.
We lost contact when John was discharged and renewed when we met again in 1990 at our Associations first reunion. Ever since then we kept in contact with phone calls and every two years at our reunions.
John you are surely missed by a lot of people and especially by me.
So my shipmate, rest in peace, you could stand down as we have the watch.
Fair Winds and Following Seas until we meet for the third time.
Shipmate,
Dom Menta

Jack and Family- Sorry for your loss. My sympathies to all of you. I first met Jack as a new Member of Durand Golf Club. After we played a round of golf we got to talking and I discovered that Carla was his daughter. Carla and I went to BKHS together and both graduated in 1979. ( BTW- She was on my top 3 list of hottest girls in the class! - what a looker! - lol). Anyhow, Jack always encouraged me to be more involved with DEGC and subsequently I ran for a board position and was voted in. Anytime I ran into him afterward he told me " You are doing a good thing laddy" I always appreciated those kind words and pass them along to members who contribute to the betterment of the our Club in his honor.
Jack was also involved with the RDGA and always promoted them and encouraged our members to volunteer or participate in their events. It was always nice to see Jack when i played in the events. He loved to joke around and always asked me how my Father was doing. I am going to miss that.
I played golf with Jack a few times at Durand and one of the things that impressed me the most was he still carried his bag at age 80+ ! ( I think I stopped at age 50). He also was a good stick and always seemed to play well when I played with him or against him!
In closing I would like to say that Jack was a great guy who enjoyed a good laugh, loved his family and loved to participate in golf as a player and volunteer. He will be missed but his influence will carry on -Thank you Jack and may you rest in peace buddy ! - Mike Eblacker

Dear Grace and Family,
Please accept heartfelt condolences from Rosaria and me and from the entire Zarcone family. We remember Jack fondly from our days at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church on Portland Ave. Jack was an awesome lector and a man of faith who could make manhattans!
We loved Jack and thank you and the Lord Jesus that he was a part of the Zarcone’s life experiences.
Sincerely,
Dominick Zarcone
