Linda Faulkner posted a condolence

Dear Catherine,
My name is Linda Faulkner. I met you only once when you and Emil came to our house in Escondido for a party I had for my husband, Bob Faulkner's, 50th birthday. I met Emil in Phoenix through Bob back in 1973/74. They were good friends at the time but distance disrupted that friendship.
I'm sorry to see on Facebook that Emil passed away in 2020. He was such a fun and talented man. I have your wedding announcement in my hand at the moment, which prompted me to search Facebook to see where Emil might be now. So happy to learn that you two were married 38 years.
Sadly, Bob passed away just two weeks ago, July 16, 2022, at age 79. He was a fun and wonderfully kind man and we were married 47 years. We've lived in the same Escondido house you visited all this time.
Warm regards and best wishes to you,
Linda

I am so sorry of Emil's passing. I knew him at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1958. He was a very caring person. Indeed, at a time of my great trouble, he helped me by his encouragement and loaning of his suitcase and funds so that I could get home. I haven't had contact with him since, but have thought of him often wondering of his situation. In searching on line for his whereabouts, I learned of his passing. I was just a struggling Freshman Aeronautical engineering student when I knew him (we lived in the Hewson House engineering floor) and had occasion to know and chat with him. It was only after I learned that I would have to leave school after being declared a non-resident and would have to pay out-of-state tuition, that I really learned how caring a person Emil was. He helped me in a time of need and I'll always be grateful.
Farewell Emil F. Grenda, may the peace of Christ be with you always as you Rest In Peace. Your good deeds will have preceded you there.
With a heartfelt sense of loss, I offer my own prayer for you and your family.
Sincerely, Arlie Ray Blackshear Sr
PS: I ended up joining the Navy four months after I left school and serving for 21 years. I later earned my BS, after retiring from the Navy, as an Electronic Engineer. My second career was as a Simulator (aircraft mostly) Engineer.

My sincere condolences to the Emil Grenda Family. I knew Emil many years ago at Cal Poly. We lived in the same engineering house and had occasion to know him. But most important, he helped me at my moment of greatest need. I have been wanting to make amends to Emil but sadly I’m too late. Rest In Peace Emil. You were one of the finest men I ever knew. May God Bless You and Yours. Sincerely, Arlie R Blackshear Sr

My condolences to Emil’s wife Catherine, and her Ennis family members. I did not know Emil but if Catherine loved him that means he had to be a decent and kind man. Feel very sad for them.

I met Emil when I was about five years old, he became my Uncle and also a dear friend. I don’t know of anyone else that was so gifted, talented and loving. He always made me feel important and special. I will treasure all the beautiful memories I have of him and do my best to emulate his joy for life. We send our greatest, deepest sympathies.

When I see Emil in my mind,I see a gentle giant! He was so strong and positive and focused on you in any interaction with him.I didn't see him that often but when I did,I always walked away feeling better in spirit somehow. There is no doubt that he will be missed terribly by both those close to him and those he only knew casually.

I will miss Emil's wise words in local meetings. I didn't see him often in recent years but I was always happy when our paths crossed. He was a special person. My thoughts are with his family.

I will miss spending time with Emil. But strangely, it’s hard for me to stay sad when I think of him. I am filled with overflowing gratitude for having been one of the lucky ones blessed with his friendship. To think of the profound impact he had on my life does make tears flow, but they are filled with so much joy. When I was a bit lost and confused Emil graciously took me under his wing and provided the mentorship I needed to help me be the man God intended me to be. Wow, I’m just blown away to have been so fortunate. I know that my family, friends and those I encounter will benefit from this too - Wow again!
My thoughts and prayers are with Catherine and all of Emil’s family. I can’t imagine the pain you are feeling now, but I can begin to imagine the ways that he has been a blessing in your lives too - Wow!
Merry Christmas Emil! You must be enjoying a very special one up there with the Lord! Thank you for the gifts you have given me, I look forward to passing them on to as many others as I can. And when I do I’ll be reminded that your love is living on. - Tim

Dear Catherine, Words cannot express my sadness when Val told me the news of Emil's passing. My heart breaks for you. I consider it a privilege to have known and loved (and sang and celebrated) Emil Grenda! I know it has been years since we have seen each other, but I can feel his hugs and hear his laughter. It will ring in my heart always when I remember Emil, my friend. May God bless you with love, compassion and His comforting grace. Emil will always be at your side, so devoted to his Catherine! Love, Katie
