I am so saddened to hear of Miriko's passing. With the war in Ukraine, Miriko has been on my mind a lot. He was such a champion and great ambassador for his homeland. I met Miriko in the 1960's when he was in the art dept with my father at SUNY Brockport. I had the honor of attending his wedding to Irma Topper and the 3 days of festivities that followed at the barn. It was such an eye opener for me to see the passion and love for living that encompassed this couple. I will always be in love with Miriko and I send that love and deepest sympathy to Irma and his beautiful family. I regret that my condolences arrive so late....but love never dies. Mr. Pylyshenko was a wonderful friend to our family. I have nice memories of fishing with him and my father in the Erie Canal when I was very young. As a graduate student at SUNY Brockport, I housesat for him and Irma and had a few meals at the Ukrainian Club of Rochester (loved the pierogies). Mirko spoke at my wedding and I still treasure his gift. When I was in high school he provided me with six pigeons from his barn, and from that small flock I raised several generations of doves that were free to come and go as they pleased. These birds would fly from their coop in the morning, and always return home.

I was saddened to hear of Mirko's passing. My heart goes out to Irma, Orysia, Katja, Andy, Nastia... I have many fond memories from childhood of visiting the farm, playing with Orysia and running/playing with the collie. And memories of a foursome of best friends - Mirko, Manny, Bill and my father Bill - drinking, laughing, playing cards and "raising hell," as it used to be said. May he rest in peace. Love, Laura Rock Kopczak

I was deeply saddened to read of Myrko's passing. He was a wonderful person. Among his many traits we already know: Artistry, Creativity; Enthusiam; Intellect, I wanted to comment on one characteristic of Myrko that held very dear and still find inspit=ring in these trying times: his profound dedication to Democracy and Human Rights. Myrko was a true political philosopher. He and his beautiful wife, Irma have been so kind to so many. Irma, I am so sorry for your loss, and can only imagine how difficult it must be. He was a treasure to the Community, and so are you!
Very fondly,
Stephanie Aldersley

Please accept my sincere statement condolence for the passing of your loved one. I was one of many students in his art class. He taught about perspective and drawing. One day he assigned a homework where he picked out my drawing and asked the class WHO DREW THIS? I raised my hand in fear. He said WELL DONE. THIS IS WHAT I EXPECT FROM ALL OF YOU. LETS TALK ABOUT THIS DRAWING. And he gave me accolades which surprised me and I held onto for many years. His words encouraged me and helped me believe I had something special in me. So I say THANK YOU PROFESSOR PYLYSHENKO - YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE TO ME. I graduated with a degree in Mathematics. But today I am a blooming artist!
May God keep you in His EVERLASTING LIGHT.
Rest In Peace dear friend and teacher.
God bless!
Sherri Williams Porter. Class of 1987

I met Mirko in local archivists' networking groups. His knowledge of local Ukrainian history and his enthusiasm for sharing it were infectious, as was his warm, welcoming personality. He was indeed larger than life. May he rest in peace.

Irma and Family,
Many times over 15 years, it was always a pleasure to run into Mirko at SUNY Brockport. He always had time for exchanging greetings and usually a story or report on what he was working on at the time. He brought positive energy to everything he engaged in and often was the force to start something great. It was a pleasure to work with him on numerous ventures. My sincere condolences.
