My heartfelt condolences to the entire KOONS family, friends and circle. It is a big one for sure as they were and are all loved very much. I mainly knew Gene through Ralph and Billy, but got to know and like him well. He will surely be missed. I was glad to spend some time with him recently and even talked him into playing Texas Hold Em with us, which he enjoyed very much and wanted to make it an annual event. Let us not put off until tomorrow... but let us all live a full life today. RIP Gene.

It was a privilege and honor to be able to call Gene my friend. Gene was always the person with a smile and a laugh. Family meant everything to him. Gene was the only person who could have convinced me to be Mrs Claus on our annual Santa and a movie day. Gene, rest in peace my friend. Until we meet again

My deepest condolences to the whole family. I remember when I married into the family in 1978, Gene (or GG, as we called him), gave me a huge hug at Jimmy’s and my wedding, welcoming me into the family. He always had a hug and a laugh! We were family from that time on. It had been a long time since I saw Gene, but I thought of him often. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To all of Gene’s loved ones — I send you my deepest condolences. I knew Gene since he was a teen working at BCBS/Excellus. What a loving friend he was. More recently we got together for some laughs over burgers and trivia. He never failed to bring joy and laughter to our get-togethers. He will be tremendously missed. I hope it helps to know that he was beloved by so many and that he touched so many lives with his kindness. RIP dear friend.

My deepest condolences to the entire Koons family. Gene and I spent 10 years working together at Excellus. We spent countless hours together executing parties and board events. We always joked that Gene was my “work husband”! So many laughs while we navigated hors d’oeuvres mishaps, decor challenges, crazy employees, and so much more.
Gene was something special and his passing is such a loss to so many close friends and family. Finally, Anne Marie; I can’t imagine the heartbreak you and the girls are going through right now. Know that your dad touched so many lives and made such a difference to so many people. He was one of a kind! I hope that gives you comfort as you go through this difficult time.

Gene was such an amazing person! He was always there to help, hug and laugh with you. I can't tell you how many times he'd stop by my desk and tell me he was "thinking of that thing" I was working on and "had some ideas. Just come see me."
I have so many fun memories with him and will cherish them. I know he's resting and enjoying this time with his amazing family in Heaven. But he will be forever missed.

Gene was an incredible human being who always had a smile on his face, a kind word, the best hugs and an amazing positive spirit. He was one of the first people I got to meet when I started at Excellus and he made me feel welcome and shared that Excellus folks are the next best thing to family. He proved that time and time again through all of the work he did at Excellus and the support he gave all of us. He was funny, energetic and generous. He is going to be very much missed. My condolences to his family and I hope that the many wonderful memories you have of times with Gene will support and comfort you during this very sad time.

To Gene’s loved ones and friends - there are not enough words to express my deep sorrow of the loss of Gene. Not only was Gene a co-worker but a very dear friend. That friendship goes as far back as when Gene was an infant and his Mom, Mary, also a beloved friend and co-worker, asked me to babysit Gene. He was a sweet baby and grew up to be a loving and kind man. Between volunteering at School 22 and helping to organize company parties, Gene and I shared many laughs, some tears and much love. I will miss his kindness, his laughter and his unconditional love. God bless you Gene - you will always have a piece of my heart. Cathy (Fogarty) Heffer

This is just so hard to believe.....I think one of my favorite memories of you is when you were just a little guy, wearing a baseball cap backwards, and we were leaving Nanny Kay's house to walk to the park. There was Nanny Kay, your Mom, me, Ralph and Cindy. When we got to the park, the bigger kids started running and you couldn't keep up so you yelled out, "Hey, wait for me". You were only about three years old and such a little sweetie.....don't know why that memory has always stayed with me. Another memory was you and me dancing at Johnny's wedding....you were an awesome dancer!
Rest in Peace sweet "GG" - you will be missed.

My condolences to the family. Gene was always focused on the work but with a twist of fun! I remember getting that call from him that he finally had a garage parking spot for me after years of reaching out to him to see where I was on the list. He was so excited to finally share the news, that he finally had a spot for me.
I am so sorry for your loss.
