Passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Gene was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Mary Ann Koons, brothers, Ralph (Barbara) Koons and Patrick Koons. He is survived by his daughter, AnnMarie (Ryan) MacCubbin; granddaughters, Alexa (Vassilis George) Mummery and Elizabeth Mummery and their father, Chris Mummery; brother, Bill (Karen) Koons; sisters, Cindy Holden and Annmarie Veronick; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends that Gene considered family.

Gene was born in Rochester, NY to the late Eugene and Mary (Carroll) Koons, Sr. He went to work for Excellus Blue Cross and Blue Shield and retired with over 39 years of dedicated services. Gene's last role, was as Building Service & Program Admin. in the Court St. Rochester region. 

Gene was very well known and loved by so many employees and retirees of the organization.  Gene was the Christmas “Santa” each year for the employees and their families. He was involved with numerous organizational groups and networks. He was never without a smile, was generous with his hugs, loved to laugh, and had a huge heart. He did so much for everyone he knew. A plethora of fun and wonderful memories will be cherished, always.

In his free time, Gene loved to travel, listen to music, and watch movies but cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. Gene loved kids and was always thinking of others through his charity work and even becoming an ordained minister. Gene loved to plan parties and was often volunteering at other parties working as a bartender or a helping hand.

Friends are invited to join the family on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 1Pm to 4Pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Friends are invited to meet the family on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Christ the King Church at 10AM for his funeral mass. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Scott Spino foundation, Inc. in Gene's memory.
