I would like to take a minute to let the Gillenkirk family know how well Ron was thought of in the Victor School district and personally as a colleague what a mentor he was to me. Maybe it was because we both attended college in Ohio. He would frequently stop by in the gym of the intermediate school and we would exchange sports talk and war stories. Unfortunately I am out of town and will be unable to attend his services but I wanted to let you know Ron will be missed.

Ron and I were classmates at McQuaid Jesuit High School in the early '60s. We were good friends for the years he was at McQuaid, and he and I played basketball at times at the old CYO on Chestnut Street in Rochester. What I recall most vividly about Ron was how kind he was, but also what a wonderful sense of humor he had! And no one liked to laugh as much as he did. We lost touch after McQuaid unfortunately, and went our separate ways. I only recently learned that he had some serious health problems. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and grandchildren. I have only the most positive memories of my old friend. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to Diane and the boys, as well as the rest of the family. I have many great memories of Ron and his brother Mike from our times together working at Western Auto as well as a few "lunches" at the Steak Stockade. Ron was always there with a joke and a smile to lighten the mood!
My thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

Mr. Gillenkirk was teacher to my two children, Timothy and Emily Cash. He was equally loved by both of them.
His humor and ability to make learning fun was more than impressive. We are so glad to have had the opportunity to know him.
Sincerely,
Eileen Cash

I was very sad to hear of Ron's death. Ron was one of my favorite people who came to the library. I've known Ron for years through his lovely wife Diane. Ron was a gem and secured Cleveland Indian tickets for me and my mom (sitting near third base) My mom was a Buckeye through and through, and grew up going to the Cleveland games with her father in the 1930s and 1940s. Because of Ron's kindness, I was able to fulfill one of my mom's dreams, and take her to a Cleveland game once again. I remember Ron listening to the games out in his shed on Leland Road. Ron always laughed at my dumb jokes. I will miss Ron, his kindness, and his sense of humor. My thoughts are with Diane and her family.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Diane and her wonderful family. Even though we haven’t lived in the area for several years we will never forget wonderful friends we made there. Reading all the wonderful stories about Ron as a teacher was just a small part of what a wonderful loving husband and father he was. God bless you all.

A very sad day indeed to know that my dear northern NY friend is not with us any longer. My husband Butch and he became good friends and golfing buddies up at the river. I know they are up in heaven laughing and rooting on the various teams. Ron always had a smile and a good chuckle for all and I know he will be sorely missed by all. My sincere condolences go out to Diane and her family.
With much love, I remain,
Pat

Ron was a great teacher at Victor. I had Ron as my Homeroom & Math Teacher in around 1976. He made teaching fun and let us as students do fun activities, field trips along with the normal course work. He was a great friend to Bill Coleman and together they put programs in place to learn effectively. I played Tennis for Mr Coleman and I played in a tennis tournament with Ron that Bill put together. It was a fun experience. Ron & Bill loved sports!

So sorry to hear of “Mr. Gillenkirk’s passing. My son was fortunate to have him as a 6th grade teacher at Victor, and what a teacher he was! All my son’s knowledge of “grammar” he owes to dear Mr. G. He was the only teacher who knew how to teach grammar. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

I had a rough childhood in Victor being a minority in different time but Mr. Gillenkirk, who loved all his students, really helped me overcome that. He thrived as a catalyst of change, often turning troublemakers into avid students. "get out a half sheet of paper" and be ready for a pop quiz at any time!
