My brother Dennis and John were two of the most influential people in my life growing up in the 50's and 60’s. My cousin John was LARGER THAN LIFE - NOT ONLY IN STATURE BUT BOTH VOICE AND OPINION Yes – Big John!! We shared many wonderful moments in those early years including my having to drive the “Green Hornet” home when he was unable!!! I want to not only to profess my love and loss of my cousin, but to reiterate John’s claim to fame – out besting Dennis in being the OLDEST LIVING MALE POGODA IN THE UNITED STATES ever! Love you forever John, “Sisty

John and I were fellow graduates of Irondequoit High School, Class of 1959 and each of us took part in our senior play, Stalag 17. We engaged in frequent telephone conversations over the last year or so as John faced health and living challenges, the last call being on February 17. I am very sad to learn of his passing and will very much miss our April conversation when we would have relived our Stalag 17 roles, discussed changes in Irondequoit and updated our activities. John was a good friend. My thanks to Alf Norwood for bringing us together after many years

Q: How did you meet John?
A: My memories of John started with the good times as part of the youth group at the UCC church on Titus avenue. My relationship with John became serious when he was our defender on the lacrosse team and helped Babcock and I have fun destroying our competition on down one defense. I still remember borrowing my father’s car to go home after lacrosse practice and giving a ride to John and Norwood. As the eternal jokesters, one day they threw out the window the knobs from the window handles, which of course, got me in trouble with my parents.
As we all know, for the last 63 years, it has been John’s stories and memories that has kept our class updated and as master of ceremonies at many of our reunions, we still laugh at his sense of humor and good spirit that prevailed through all his physical challenges.

One of my all time favorite Irondequoit humans. Larger than life, so kind and friendly. Such fond memories growing up and seeing John as part of my life. Always looked forward to seeing him around town and chatting with him. We lost a great one. If only we all could be as wonderful human as John.
Miss you and love you

We have many fond memories of John, from playing poker at my house, cooking at the Vikings booth on 4th of July. John had great wit and always a friendly hello. We will miss him at our annual summer reunion.
