I worked for Norm Burgess when he was the Director of Personnel for the City School District. Those were some of the happiest years of my life. How fortunate I was to work for a man who was so honorable, fair, kind, hard working, and fun to be around. I will always remember him fondly and with great admiration. I felt honored to have had the opportunity of knowing Norm Burgess and equally proud to be able to say I had the best boss in the world. He will always be a very special part of my memories.

We first met Norm in the late 60's when Jerry (or as Norm called him, Bill)was an administrative intern in Norm's office at the Rochester City School District.
That Christmas, he and Eleanor invited us to their 1811 home and we fell in love with it. When they sold it we were not able to buy it. Eventually we purchased it from the people they sold it to.
Norm was a comfortable, easy-going, personable Christian friend. He had a great sense of humor, a twinkle in his eyes, and a great laugh that drew you in. Both he and Eleanor were very dedicated and committed to providing the best education available for the Rochester City School kids.
They bought this house when they were young and it was badly in need of repairs and restoration. They made it into a comfortable home. While doing so they gained a "grandmother" as they befriended the woman who sold it to them. They lovingly cared for her until the time of her passing.
One day in the '90s they stopped by to visit the house. It was such fun to listen and watch them as they re-lived their memories of it. I think Christmas here wss always the most special of holidays for them.
We had hoped to have Norm here next summer for the 200th birthday of the house.
Our sincere sympathy to you all in your loss of a wonderful man.
